Today, we’ve decided to review something different than the usual, as back to college shopping begins. We will pay attention to top tech gadgets on the market that are likely to be useful in the student’s life.
In my opinion, college students should follow the new technology trends, no matter what is their field of study. We live in a world surrounded by all kinds of tech devices, why not take the advantage of using them?
Note: In this post we won’t mention any laptop or ultrabook device.
Portable device for taking quick notes/browsing the Internet
When I was a student, I had my 13.3″ MacBook Pro with me (which actually is pretty small and portable device). However, I found it hard to take quick notes, or browse the Internet while in cafe, for example. For that reason, having a smartphone or a tablet during your educational years may save additional time and effort.
When choosing a smartphone for college, there are plenty of questions to consider. What OS? – Android, Windows Phone, Blackberry or iOS? It is a matter of choice and preferences.
Portable, Small Speakers for your College Room
When I was in college, I really missed my home speakers. If you are feeling the same, you can always go to the local store or order online two small speakers with USB cable. The Logitech Stereo Speakers Z120 are small and lightweight, you can easily carry them around in the kitchen, in your room, or even in the park – because they are self-charged via USU. The sound is just excellent, enough to meet the needs of a small party.
Be more active with Fitbit Flex
When in college and studying on your laptop, this device may help you not to lose your body activity. The Fitbit Flex Wireless Activity + Sleep Wristband gives you the motivation you need, by tracking your fitness activity, like steps, distance passed, calories burned and other important details.
It may sound funny, but while in college, stress is increased, and sleep cycle is usually messed up. The Wristband, I will dare to quote this “helps you learn how to sleep better, and wakes you silently in the morning”.
Extend your iPhone Battery with Juice Pack Plus
Mophie Juice Pack Plus is external battery case for iPhone 4, 4S and 5, which probably will be working on iPhone 5C too. Mophie’s extended battery may be extremely useful especially for students, since they often find the original iPhone battery as insufficient. This elegant tool adds another 120% of battery life.
If you are not an iPhone owner – don’t worry, because Mophie have those for some other devices too – just look at what they have to offer.
Backup! External Hard Drive or Cloud Hosting
Students often forget that their hard drive space is limited, or that their laptop may be stolen. That’s a main reason to backup your data, at least on an external hard drive or cloud storage.
External Hard Drive
An example of good external HDD can be the WD My Passport – well-designed, 1TB, external hard drive with USB 3.0 connector. Most laptops nowadays support the USB 3.0, but if yours is not among them – don’t worry, because USB 3.0 is also compatible with USB 2.0.
Another advantage of the external hard drive is that you can store all of your coursework data and university projects at one place.
Another way to backup your files is to keep them safe in Dropbox – online cloud storage platform. You can access Dropbox through any computer or mobile device with Internet connection. Dropbox also adds a folder to your computer, which you can access directly in your Finder/Explorer. If your OS gets infected with a virus, Dropbox folder won’t get affected.
