HP ENVY 14 Spectre – Ultrabook For College

hp envy spectre

HP Envy is a well-designed laptop series, which will be a perfect solution for laptop for college, and the great thing about it is its performance, design and specifications, combined with fair price. This laptop series is also famous because of the Beats Audio™ (a well-developed sound technology, which is owned by Dr. Dre).

We have mentioned HP ENVY in one of our previous posts, but this week, HP announced another version of HP ENVY, and it is called Spectre. This model will be available on Amazon on March 11, 2012. It is now available on HP Online Shopping Store at the price of $1400.

This model seems to be a great opportunity for you if you’re looking for an innovative laptop, because it’s a luxury gadget which at the same time can complete many tasks and do a great job. Since it meets all the requirements for laptop for college, we decided to focus on it and do a brief review before the model is released officially on the market.

The landing page of HP ENVY Spectre is just mind-blowing. You can view it here.

HP ENVY 14 Spectre Review

HP Envy Spectre will be equipped with Beats Audio™, and it will be the world’s first multi-surface glass notebook. The surface is made of “super-durable, scratch-resistant glass fused to an all-aluminum body”.

When it comes to good performance and quality, undoubtedly HP is one of the greatest brands. The new Spectre laptop mate will operate with the following hardware specifications:

  • 2nd generation Intel® Core™ i5-2467M Processor 1.60GHz with Turbo Boost Technology up to 2.30GHz
  • 4GB 1333MHz DDR3
  • 128GB solid-state drive flash module
  • Intel HD Graphics 3000 with up to 1696MB total graphics memory
  • Up to 9.5 hours of battery life on a single charge

If the details above are not familiar to you, you should be aware that these details means a lot, and they are more than perfect for college and university work, but also for gaming.

Intel processors are leader in this area. The i5 and i7 series are the most used processors by laptop manufacturers, because of their quality. HP Envy Spectre’s processor is not the most powerful one, but that is for a reason, called portability. Do not worry about it, the processor is supported by the Intel Turbo Boost Technology. Just to note, 4GB of ram is just great.

You may wonder why the hard drive has only 128GB of storage? Believe me, you will love the explanation of this. The new solid-state drives (SSD) are much more faster than the regular hard-disks, but unfortunately they cannot carry that much information (at least at this stage of development). However, this may not be a problem, because you can always insert a regular external HDD (for example 1TB) and use it as a main storage. You will love the way SSD works, and especially its speed and quick loading process.

Many new laptops that aim to be portable, including the HP Envy Spectre, are using the Intel HD Graphics 3000. This graphics card is perfect for everything else, but not gaming (or at least the latest games).

This laptop is great for the significance. My only complain is always that HP could have used an increased quality LCD.
